Academic and Professional Writing
T
he First Writing Requirement. . .
Every year, the Professional & Academic Writing Program is home to about 2,000 undergraduates working to complete the First Writing Requirement. Courses meeting the first writing requirement (FWR) include the stand-alone courses ENWR 110 and 210, as well as three sequences: ENWR 105/106, ENWR 105/107/108, and ENWR 215/216/217. On this page, you will find information about FWR placement and exemptions, as well as information about our course offerings and themes.
. . .And Beyond
In addition to its core curriculum, the Program offers courses in professional and academic writing, special topics courses, and a graduate seminar in the teaching of writing. The Program also houses the Writing Center, which offers free, individualized writing consultation to all UVa students and faculty.
