The History of Literatures in English sequence (ENGL 38xx courses)

As of AY 2015-16, the History of Literatures in English sequence will become two rather than three courses.  On the new model:

ENGL 3810 will cover literature from the Anglo-Saxon era to 1800.  It will be offered in the fall semester only.  In Fall 2015, Professor John Parker will lecture in this course.

ENGL 3820 will cover literature from 1800 to the present, with an emphasis on American and global Anglophone literature in addition to literature from the British isles.  It will be offered in the spring semester only.  In Spring 2016, Professors Stephen Cushman and Michael Levenson will lecture in this course.

ENGL 3830 will no longer be offered.

English majors graduating after August 2015 need take only two courses in the History of Literature sequence. These majors must take:

1)  ENGL 3810, either the “old version” or the “new version”

2)  ENGL 3820, either the “old version” or the “new version,” or ENGL 3830.

Please direct any questions about this transition to the DUS.
